Supporting Waterfront Access: Permitting Improvements at Glendale Town Docks in Gilford, NH
Public waterfront spaces play an important role in many New Hampshire communities. They provide residents and visitors with access to lakes, support local recreation, and contribute to the character and economy of the region.
At Edgewater Strategies, our team often works behind the scenes to help municipalities navigate the environmental permitting process required for projects that improve public infrastructure. One such project took place in 2022 at the Glendale Town Docks in Gilford, New Hampshire.
Improving a Community Boat Launch
The Glendale Town Docks are an important access point for residents, visitors, and boaters who enjoy the lakes and outdoor recreation opportunities in the region.
In 2022, the Town of Gilford Department of Public Works (DPW) proposed improvements to the site, including reconstruction of:
The main boat ramp
The jet ski ramp associated with the docks
These upgrades were designed to improve safety, usability, and long-term durability of the public launch area while maintaining responsible environmental practices.
Navigating Environmental Permitting
Projects that involve work near water or within shoreline areas require careful review and permitting to protect surrounding ecosystems.
For the Glendale Town Docks project, the Town needed approval through a dredge and fill wetlands permit from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES).
The permit was reviewed through the agency’s Land Resources Management Division – Shoreland Section, which oversees projects that may impact shoreland areas, wetlands, and water resources.
This process ensures that improvements to public infrastructure are completed in a way that protects:
Water quality
Shoreline stability
Wetland ecosystems
Long-term environmental health of the lake
Edgewater’s Role in the Project
Edgewater Strategies worked closely with the Town of Gilford and the Gilford DPW to support the permitting process for the project.
Our team provided technical guidance and expertise related to:
Environmental permitting requirements
Shoreland and wetlands regulations
Project coordination with state agencies
This collaboration helped the Town successfully move through the approval process required to reconstruct the ramps and improve the public launch facility.
Supporting Communities and Outdoor Recreation
Public access points like the Glendale Town Docks are essential for communities that value outdoor recreation, tourism, and lake access.
By helping municipalities navigate environmental regulations and permitting requirements, projects like this can move forward responsibly while protecting the natural resources that make New Hampshire’s lakes so special.
At Edgewater Strategies, we’re proud to support projects that improve community infrastructure while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
